Smart solutions are ubiquitous in our lives that we seldom give them much thought when we encounter them day in and day out. For young generation growing up and conveniently immersing in technologies, it is important to highlight to them the background and principles of such adoptions, which will trigger them to think of other more creative and innovative use of technologies of other aspects that have not been imagined.

Twenty students from the Hong Kong Academy of Gifted Education, who were at the time taking SEED Foundation's Cloud Computing Course, paid a curated visit to Autotoll office in Kowloon Bay and learned about the Company's solutions to drive a Smart City in Hong Kong. The students were first met with Mr Karel Au, Chief Information Officer of Autotoll, who introduced his company's solutions in four main aspects, namely Smart Mobility, Smart Logistics, Smart Living, and Smart Environment. After that, the students had the chance to actually see and touch the demonstrations of those solutions at a showcase area in the Smart Solutions' Provider's office.

In order to portrait an accurate picture of what working in technology looks like, we have invited two energetic colleagues from Karel's team to share how they become the role they were in then, as well as some personal stories and advices to the students. They have clarified some myths and misconceptions of working in the IT sector, and provided some valuable insights for students who are interested in pursuing a career in technology and related fields.

Although it was a short encounter, it was a fruitful morning for the students to get in touch with industry practitioners and extend their knowledge of technology from theory to application. We hope the tour would encourage students to be more aware of the technology behind the applications they see everyday, and nurture their interest in pursuing a technology-related pathway whether in their further study or career.
