Last week, we brought together a group of design-passionate university students for the kick-off workshop of the AlipayHK 𝛂dvice Youth Tech Innovation & UX Design Competition and Internship Program 2026.
The session was more than a competition briefing. It was a glimpse into how the next generation approaches real industry problems. Participants got hands-on with AlipayHK's business strategy and UX design thinking, explored the fundamentals of Figma, and began developing AI-enabled UX/UI concepts for the AlipayHK app, translating important themes — digital living, environmental sustainability, and public welfare — into user-centered feature ideas.
What stood out most was the mindset in the room. These students are not waiting to graduate before thinking like professionals. They are already asking the right questions: Who is the user? What are their pain points? How do we design something that is intuitive to use?
That is exactly the kind of thinking we want to see more of as Hong Kong’s FinTech and Innovation sectors continue to grow.
Co-organised with AlipayHK and HKFYG, this program is designed to close the gap between academic learning and workplace readiness, giving students a real product brief, a competitive stage, and a direct pathway to a summer internship at AlipayHK.
Participants will now put their ideas to work and submit their designs, ahead of the Semi-Final, Final and Award Ceremony on 5 June. Stay tuned to our page for updates as the competition heats up.
